Behind the Art

“No, it’s alright, I can keep going.”

Michelle Arama is one of my most interesting and enjoyable characters to act out. Her face and hair are actually loosely modelled off of Jasmine from Deltora quest. I wanted to capture Michelle’s noble upbringing and beauty and I can’t think of a more beautiful character than Jasmine.

In this piece, titled Training, Michelle Arama—one of my original characters for Dungeons & Dragons—is shown kneeling on the grass, catching her breath after an intense combat session with her brother, Senkara. Michelle’s journey has led her to the Nine Hells in search of her brother, and she returned with more than just her sibling. Here, she’s wearing her hellforged armor, a powerful, suit forged in the fires of hell—a symbol of resilience and strength.

Alongside her armor, she wears a sun-shaped necklace representing her faith, a touch that reflects her inner light and loyalty to her beliefs even in the darkest places. This piece captures a quieter moment, showing Michelle in a rare state of vulnerability as she pauses in exhaustion. After a long, demanding training session, she’s learning from Senkara not only the ways of combat but also how to wield the mystical powers of her armor.

This drawing was a quick study to finalize her design, and I focused on balancing the fierce energy of the character with the calmness of the setting. Training showcases Michelle’s growth and the challenges she faces as she learns to use her strength and newfound power, capturing her determination and dedication to mastering her craft.
