I Say Yes
Behind the Art
“Man. Why’d I have to turn into that?”
”For your beloved, right?”
“Hey Del… Will I die?”
”Probably.”
“Well, if you’re going to die anyway, then do your best to act like a hero.”
This piece, titled I Say Yes, draws inspiration from the unforgettable final episode of Familiar of Zero Season 2, where Saito heroically faces an army of 70,000 for the girl he loves. The title reflects the emotional piano rendition of the opening song that plays during this battle, amplifying the poignancy of his selfless act. In the quote version of this drawing, Saito is shown speaking to his trusted sword, Derfflinger, with dialogue represented by pink text for Saito and yellow for Derfflinger.
Surrounded by the scattered swords of defeated foes, Saito kneels wearily, reflecting the way he knelt before his arrival to the battle. The arrows and embers symbolize his ultimate defeat as he succumbs to a devastating barrage of fire, arrows, and cannon shots, having fought courageously and defeated 200 soldiers. Through this piece, I aimed to capture Saito’s unwavering resolve and the bittersweet beauty of his sacrifice.
