Behind the Art
“Don’t Cry. You’re perfect.”
Silco’s final words to his daughter, this piece was created to capture the many complex emotions that Jinx would be feeling in the moment of Silco’s death, her attack on Piltover, the rest of her life in the future.
The main focus of this drawing is of course Jinx from Arcane. Specifically we focus on her face and her expression. I wanted to show an expression of deep pain and sadness with a hint of bittersweet, captured by her smile, to show the calming effect that Silco had on her. In his last moments he only wanted to protect her.
The background of this piece includes several references to the series and is used to further show Jinx’s mental state and thoughts.
We see memories of her childhood friends who tragically lost their lives at her hand. We see her sister and the moment that ‘Powder’ became ‘Jinx’. And the final memory in the bottom left, the death of her father and the words he spoke to her. Each of the phrases shown are a memory from her past, scratched into her broken mind.
The final key element on the background is the shattered glass, a representation of her own shattered mind. The pattern of the cracks is also a direct reference to her attack on Piltover, following the same pattern as the cracked glass of the council chambers.
Overall, this drawing was alot of fun to draw, I really loved adding the expression and details to Jinx’s face. The hardest part was definitely getting the cracks to look like glass and deciding what to do for the background. I wasn’t sure how well this would turn out, but in the end I am very happy with the result and I think this is one of my greatest masterpieces.
